Afternoon Tea
Afternoon tea is a popular activity for celebrations or a way to spend a leisurely afternoon with friends or family whilst feeling a little bit spoiled. The tradition of afternoon tea is thought to have originated from the 19th Century with the Duchess of Bedford, wishing to ward off her hunger between lunch and the evening meal which used to be served quite late. This aristocratic origin still influences afternoon tea today, with the elegant presentation of cakes, pastries and finger sandwiches and a feeling of grandeur brought on by the use of fine crockery and cake stands along with waitress or waiter service. Of course, this is all accompanied by a lovely cup of tea.
In parts of the UK, the term “high tea” is also used to mean “afternoon tea”. Confusingly, in many parts of the UK such as the North of England, Scotland and other places, “high tea” refers to a substantial evening meal.
At Ultimate Bars & Catering, our afternoon tea experiences are for larger groups with a minimum of 30 guests. Prices are from £15 per head.

A selection of crustless finger sandwiches served on white, wholemeal or seeded bread. Gluten-free options are also available. We also able to present wraps instead of, or in combination with, the Sandwiches. Here are our most popular sandwich choices:

Whilst the British are known to be avid tea drinkers many don’t like it, particularly the younger generations where one in five say they don’t like the traditional brew. Therefore, even though it is called afternoon tea, we will serve coffee or different types of tea of your choosing.
